About Relay
We got tired of watching automations die at the handoff.
Relay Labs was founded in 2023 by a team of platform engineers who kept rebuilding the same brittle glue code between AI tools and the systems of record they were supposed to update.
The problem
A single agent can be brilliant and still lose the thread
The best individual agent still fails the moment it has to hand a task to a system, a person, or another agent. Most automation failures we saw weren't reasoning failures — they were handoff failures: a status never updated, an approval never requested, a result never confirmed.
The approach
Make the handoff itself the unit of reliability
Relay treats every step between agents as a contract: what was sent, what came back, and whether the receiving side accepted it. That single idea is the whole product — everything else exists to make chains built on it easy to run.
Principles
What we won't compromise on
Nothing acts without a record
If an agent can't explain what it did and why, it shouldn't have been allowed to do it.
Humans stay in the loop they choose
Approval gates are yours to set. We don't decide what's safe to automate on your behalf.
Small, scoped agents beat one big one
A chain of specialists you can inspect step by step is easier to trust than a single model doing everything at once.
